Rabbi Yosef Mendelevich made world news when, in 1970, at age 22, he made a daring attempt to escape the Soviet Union with fellow Jews on a small tourist aircraft. He was arrested and imprisoned in the Soviet Gulag for 12 years.
This is the story of one man’s resistance against tyranny, and of his daily struggle to retain his Judaism and his humanity in a Communist system built to extinguish.
